How long do electric car batteries last?
Most electric car batteries are designed to last for more than 250,000 to 500,000 km, depending on usage and model. After 300,000 km, most electric cars still retain at least 85% of their original range. That means a Tesla Model 3 or Hyundai Kona will still have at least 400km of range. In other words: A new Model 3 Long Range has a range of 600 km (WLTP). With 85% battery capacity after 300,000 km, that's still a range of 510 km. That's enough to drive for 4 hours non-stop – more than enough in Switzerland. On average, drivers in Switzerland drive 12,000 km annually. So you'd have to drive your Tesla for 25 years before the battery range actually decreased by 15%. Combustion engines have many parts that need to be replaced or can go wrong (timing belt, oil filters, etc.) with high mileage. So, at 300,000km, something's bound to give out.
